Welcome to Our School
Eight Corners has 14 classrooms which house the following:
- 4 kindergarten classes
- 5 first grades
- 5 second grades
We offer a "looping" option, where a child may stay with the same teacher for first and second grade.
We offer a full spectrum of services for our students that support
and enrich their learning. Literacy support is provided by a literacy
teacher and educational technicians. All three primary buildings
share a full time math support teacher and a part time GATES teacher.
We also offer art, music and physical education programs, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy,
and resource room instruction.

There are currently 268 students enrolled at Eight Corners:
- Kindergarten - 73
- Grade 1 - 99
- Grade 2 - 96
Student/teacher ratio is 19 students/one teacher.
We are featuring Eight Corners student art work on our Web pages.
One can use the Art Gallery link under the art on each page to see
more complete representations. |
The 2009-2010 school year is off to a great start. We got a make-over in
the summer with new paint, new carpet and new floor tile in most of the building. The
school is looking great! Eight Corners is also celebrating its 50th birthday
this year. Look for more news on how we will celebrate in the coming months!
We are embracing the 5-2-1-0 Let's Go program. This program encourages eating
5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day, 2 hours of screen time,
1 hour of physical activity and 0 sugary drinks. Everyone in the school is
working
hard to be healthier.
In September we had a book walk in Memorial Park. We walked around the
park, reading large reproductions of Down to the Sea With Mr. Magee by
Chris Van
Dusen. We have also had Cathryn Falwell, a local Maine author and illustrator,
come in to do a presentation of her book Scoot!. We will continue to focus
on eating well, getting lots of exercise and being healthy.
Our gardens produced lots of good things. We had basil, tomatoes, potatoes,
turnips, cucumbers, carrots and flowers. We are already planning for the
spring.
