Students at SHS enjoy one of the most extensive activities
programs in New England. We have many longstanding programs
as well as several that are new just this year. Every student
can find a place to participate outside the classroom walls,
and we encourage new ideas. We have recently added the Anime Club, Ping Pong, Interact and Model United
Nations. An Outing Club has recently received Board of Education approval.
Scarborough's Academic Decathlon Team placed fourth at the U.S. National Championships in San Antonio, Texas in 2006 and represented Maine admirably in 2007 at the national competition in Hawaii. In 2008, they were victorious once again and represented the State of Maine in California. In 2009, the team was again state champions and competed in Memphis, Tennessee. Winning the 2010 competition will send them to nationals again this year in Omaha, Nebraska.
In 2009, Scarborough student, Senior Caterina McLean won the Gold Medal indicating 1st place nationally in the essay competition and Sophomore Seth Albert received the silver medal indicating 2nd place nationally in math. Congratulations to this outstanding team and their coaches! Since Maine began competing in Academic Decathlon in 1985, Scarborough High's teams have won all but 4 years when Monmouth Academy was victorious. That's 25 years!!
Scarborough's Speech and Debate team's Student Congress competition has resulted in state championships for the last 5 years - 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010!!
