Fruit Going Abstract

Students saw a Power Point Presentation of contemporary artist Roy Lichtenstein’s paintings. His early work was classified as Abstract Expressionism. His interest in everyday objects influenced his later paintings. He became known as a Pop Artist. One of his paintings, "Cow Going Abstract," was used as the motivation for this student project. We called it "FruitGoing Abstract."

Here students drew, from observation, a simple fruit still life. They added a background with pattern and black for contrast. Shading was done with stippling. Then, in the format of a collaged triptych, they abstract the still life in the same way Lichtenstein abstracted his painting, "Cow Going Abstract."
