Pop Art, short for Popular Art, was
made famous by artist Andrew Warhol.
As a child recuperating from illness,
Warhol amused himself by creating art.
He was a filmmaker as well as artist.
One of his movies was called Trash. He
painted many famous people's
portraits. His Pop Art paintings of
everyday household objects such as
Campbells soup cans and Pepsi bottles
inspired these drawings.
Students gathered their favorite
lunch wrappers (now you parents can see
what your children really eat at school!)
and donated them for our "still lifes".
Carefully drawn from observation, these
wrapper drawings came to life with the
use of blended and realistic color. Value
changes from light to dark helped to
suggest 3-dimensional form.
