Lighthouses
Art Gallery Home |
The community art “Lighthouses on Parade” sponsored
by Hannaford, local companies, organizations, and individuals in 2003
was the inspiration for this project. The embellished lighthouses were
displayed throughout Portland and southern Maine. At the end of the project,
the lighthouses were auctioned off to benefit local charities. Some of
the Maine artists’ designs were inspired by famous artists.
Students choose a similar lighthouse style, and then a famous artist’s work for inspiration. Since their design was two dimensional, they incorporated the background. A personal twist was added to their design. Some students chose to work with marker for a vibrant color scheme and others chose colored pencil for blended color.
One of the many outstanding student designs was chosen to represent the Middle school portion of the 2006 art show poster.
