Plan Summer Activities

Wentworth students enjoy their summer break, but they can also continue to learn while they have fun. In fact, the best learning occurs when children don't realize they're learning. Parents can plan summer vacation activities that are both fun and educational, such as:

  • visiting your local library to learn about summer reading and other special programs for children. http://www.library.scarborough.me.us [EXIT SITE]
  • visiting local historical sites
  • visiting area museums or places of interest
  • participating in summertime community events such as craft fairs, road races, concerts, fundraisers, etc…
  • parents can demonstrate the value of continuous learning to their children by reading regularly, developing new skills for a job, or learning a new hobby or sport.

Visit the New School

If the next year will mean a change in schools --- take advantage of orientation sessions where you and your child can learn more about the new school. Let the children spend some time on the school playground. Walk through the school to help your child get aquainted with his/her wing, classroom location and other important rooms (library, bathrooms, cafeteria, etc…) Becoming familiar with the school building and grounds can help children feel more confident and comfortable when school opens in the Fall.
